To err is human... to correct is good parenting

I’m currently reading a wonderful book called “The Last Lecture” Lessons in life by Randy Pausch. He makes a very interesting observation; “When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s bothering to tell you anymore, that’s a bad place to be. You may not want to hear it, but your critics are often the ones telling you they still love you and care about you, and want to make you better.”

This is so relevant in today’s day and age where children are no longer reprimanded for fear of scaring their mental balance. This is utter bullcrap! If your child has made a mistake, correct him or her right then and there. There is no point in wondering where you went wrong later on when your child turns out into a Devil. I for one come from the old school of parenting. I love and cherish and let my children know that they mean the world to me and at the same time I don’t spare the rod when I see them do wrong.

An act is no longer a mistake or an error if it is repeated time and again. It needs attention and needs fixing RIGHT THERE. Your child might get upset, might even hate you at that time; but believe me there will come a day in his or her life where the lesson you taught will make complete sense and he or she will thank you for it.
